The ATLBuckeyes History
Due to the overwhelming response of area Buckeye fans in July of 1997 a group of dedicated and loyal OSU alumni living in Atlanta including 11 former Atlanta Alumni Club officers decided to expand the reach and scope of the OSU fan base so as to include the fast growing and affluent neighborhoods of North Atlanta. In looking for an environment with suitable ergonomics and a theme appropriate for Buckeye fans of all types this group set out to choose among the many options available to them around metro Atlanta.
After many visits, healthy debate, and negotiations with a number of bars and clubs the group decided that TONY's American Grille & Tap would be an ideal spot for Ohio State fans and alumni to enjoy Buckeye sports year round.
On August 28th, 1997 on a warm late summer evening a healthy crowd of about 100 loyal Buckeye fans watched the Buckeyes beat Wyoming 24-10 in the Pigskin Classic to begin what would be a 10-3 campaign for John Cooper's Buckeyes.
Since that summer night in 1997 the Buckeyes have gone 75-25, with 4-4 record versus that "Team from Up North". The Buckeyes have won 2 Big Ten titles and of course the 2002 National Championship. Jim Tressel took over for John Cooper in 2001 and a new era has been established at "The Horseshoe" on Saturday afternoons.
We also like to believe that a new era began that August evening in 1997 in Roswell, Georgia. As we later became officially known . The North Atlanta Ohio State Fan & Booster Club now has a healthy membership of over 400+ and regularly packs TONY's on fall afternoons for Ohio State football and all the fun & camaraderie that we have come to share.
Since moving to TONY's there have been many changes and improvements and loyal Buckeye fans from all over metro Atlanta and beyond have become familiar with the great TONY's menu, the half time trivia contest and the "Just for the Ladies" trivia question. In addition we have had the Woody Hayes Look-a-Like Contest, the Miss Buckeye Contest, and have had an outstanding silent auction of autographed Buckeye football memorabilia on Michigan weekend that has developed quite a following.
In 2004 Dave & Beth Ash, (Dave, an Ohio State alumnus), purchased TONY's and have set out to make it the premiere neighborhood sports pub in North Atlanta. With two new high definition big screens, a new sound system, a new AC system, and an improved bar & menu selection Dave & Beth now own the what we like to believe is as close to "The Horsehoe" on a Saturday afternoon as you will ever find outside of Columbus, Ohio.
Come join us for Buckeye football every Saturday and you too will understand why TONY's is "All Buckeyes, All the time !!"
